A rural university journey needs the right Hartpury destination, not just “Gloucester”
Hartpury University and Hartpury College share a large countryside campus at Hartpury House, Gloucester GL19 3BE. The University says the site is on the A417, four miles north of Gloucester, so a traveller arriving at Gloucester railway station or staying in the city has not yet reached the main campus.
Crystal Executive Cars (CEC) provides pre-booked chauffeur-driven private hire for students, families, academics, athletes and visitors. We plan the journey around your flight, exact Hartpury destination, passenger number and luggage rather than treating every “Hartpury” booking as the same stop.
First decide whether the booking ends on the rural campus or in Gloucester
This is the detail most likely to change the final part of a Hartpury journey. University halls and specialist facilities are on the main campus, while Hartpury’s Blackfriars accommodation is in Gloucester city centre.
Hartpury House, Gloucester GL19 3BE
Use this for the main Hartpury campus, then add the hall, reception, equine, animal, agriculture or sport destination if you know it. The estate is large, so a named building or facility helps with the final approach.
Blackfriars, Gloucester city centre
Blackfriars is not on the rural campus. Hartpury says it is around 10–15 minutes from campus by car or bus and about a 10-minute walk from Gloucester railway station.
New international student? Check Hartpury’s own airport-transfer eligibility first
Hartpury currently says some new international students may be eligible for a free airport collection at the start of their first academic year. The stated conditions include living outside the UK, being a new first-year student, living in Hartpury-managed accommodation and travelling to the UK unaccompanied.
Hartpury also says its airport transfers must be booked at least seven days in advance and are for UK airports. Students using an eligible all-inclusive package may have additional airport transfers during the academic year.
If Hartpury’s arrangement applies to you, it makes sense to check that option first. CEC can be useful where you are travelling with family, do not meet the eligibility rules, want a private vehicle, arrive on a different date, have a hotel or Blackfriars stop, or need a journey outside the University’s transfer arrangement.
Bristol, Birmingham and Heathrow cover different Hartpury travel needs
Bristol and Birmingham are useful regional airport routes for Hartpury, while Heathrow is the main long-haul route featured on this page. The right choice depends on your flight rather than one airport always being best.
CEC can also discuss Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, London City, Manchester and other UK airports when the journey suits your itinerary.
A practical regional gateway for many Hartpury journeys from the south west. A private transfer can continue directly to the rural campus or Gloucester accommodation without a rail or bus change.
A useful Midlands option for domestic, European and connecting flights. Tell us whether your final stop is Hartpury House, Blackfriars or another Gloucestershire address.
A major long-haul gateway for international students, families and visiting academics. CEC can arrange a direct road journey from Heathrow Terminals 2, 3, 4 or 5 to the confirmed Hartpury or Gloucester destination.
Heathrow to Hartpury University using Hartpury House, Gloucester GL19 3BE as the destination. Open the route in Google Maps. Your booked journey can finish at a hall, Blackfriars, a hotel or another confirmed address.
A CEC airport collection is planned around the flight and the final door
CEC is a Transport for London (TfL)-licensed private hire operator. Airport journeys are pre-booked and can include meet and greet with a name board, flight monitoring, help with luggage and a 60-minute waiting-time allowance, subject to the booking terms.
If you searched for a “Heathrow to Hartpury taxi” or “Gloucester taxi to Heathrow”, the important distinction is that CEC provides a pre-arranged chauffeur-driven private hire journey rather than a street-hail taxi. The route and price are agreed for the confirmed booking before travel.
Hartpury luggage can be different from a normal student airport journey
Hartpury’s specialist courses and sports pathways mean some travellers arrive with equipment as well as suitcases. The safe approach is to describe everything before booking rather than assume it will fit.
Tell us how many large cases, cabin bags and boxes are travelling. A larger passenger vehicle can be discussed where the load needs more space.
Riding boots, helmets or bulky tack should be declared in advance. A normal airport passenger transfer is not specialist horse transport.
Large kit bags, golf equipment or other awkward items can change the suitable vehicle. Give approximate sizes where possible.
For parents travelling with a student, include every passenger and every case. Child-seat requirements should also be requested before confirmation.
Hartpury is one campus, but visitors can be heading to very different facilities
The campus covers around 360 hectares and includes specialist equine, animal, agriculture and sport areas. For an appointment, event or academic visit, use the named facility from your invitation rather than only the main postcode.
A sensible reference for general University visits when you have not been given a more specific building or event entrance.
Hartpury has specialist equine teaching and performance facilities. Equine students and visitors should provide the exact centre or event name where possible.
Sport visits may use the academy, pitches, performance facilities or stadium. Match and event instructions can change the best arrival point.
Students and professional visitors may be attending a specialist lab, teaching centre or animal facility rather than a general classroom.
Some teaching and industry visits are based around the farm and agriculture facilities. Use the meeting point supplied by Hartpury.
Campus halls and Blackfriars need different drop-off planning
Hartpury currently offers University accommodation both on its rural campus and in Gloucester. That makes the accommodation name more useful than simply saying “Hartpury University”.
One of the University’s main on-campus hall groups. Send the exact room or arrival instructions if they have been issued for move-in day.
Another current University hall group on the main campus. It is separate from Gloucester city-centre accommodation.
The Grade II listed Hartpury House sits at the centre of the campus and also contains a small number of University rooms.
City-centre accommodation with a direct Hartpury shuttle connection. It is around 10–15 minutes from the rural campus by car or bus.
Gloucester railway station is useful, but it is not the University campus
Hartpury identifies Gloucester as the nearest railway station and operates a shuttle-bus service between Gloucester and the campus. Current times and booking arrangements should be checked directly with Hartpury before travel.
Blackfriars is much closer to the station than the rural campus. CEC can also arrange a pre-booked station collection if you have heavy luggage, are travelling as a family or need a direct journey to a particular hall or facility.
Hartpury graduation travel is a Gloucester Cathedral journey, not a campus ceremony
Hartpury’s current 2026 graduation guidance places the award ceremonies at Gloucester Cathedral. The University recommends graduates arrive about 1.5 hours before their ceremony, so the booking should use the ceremony time rather than treating graduation as an ordinary campus trip.
A family may be staying at a Gloucester hotel or collecting a graduate from Blackfriars or another address. Build those stops into the booking if needed.
Use the current Hartpury graduation instructions for arrival time, access and guest arrangements. Graduation transport should be planned separately from a normal Hartpury House journey.
Hartpury University to the airport: start with the flight departure time
For the return journey, tell us the airport terminal, flight departure time, collection address, passenger count and luggage. We can then plan the pickup around the road journey and the check-in time you want to allow.
Collections can be arranged from Hartpury House, a named campus hall, Blackfriars, Gloucester, Cheltenham or another confirmed address. Extra pickups should be agreed before travel because they change the route.
Questions about Hartpury University airport transfers
Can I book a taxi from Heathrow to Hartpury University?
CEC can arrange the journey, but our service is a pre-booked chauffeur-driven private hire transfer rather than a street-hail taxi. Send the flight, passenger, luggage and exact Hartpury destination before travel.
Does Hartpury University offer its own airport collection?
Yes, for some eligible international students. Hartpury’s current guidance lists conditions including being a new student living outside the UK, staying in Hartpury-managed accommodation, travelling unaccompanied and arriving at the start of the first academic year. The University says bookings must be made at least seven days in advance. Check its current guidance because eligibility can change.
Is Blackfriars on the Hartpury campus?
No. Blackfriars is Hartpury’s Gloucester city-centre accommodation. The University says it is around 10–15 minutes from campus by car or bus and close to Gloucester railway station.
Can you collect from Bristol or Birmingham Airport as well as Heathrow?
Yes. CEC can discuss Bristol, Birmingham and Heathrow journeys, plus other UK airports where the route is suitable. The best airport depends on the flight and your final destination.
Can an equine student bring riding equipment in the vehicle?
Normal personal equipment can be considered if the vehicle has enough safe luggage space. Tell us about saddles, bulky tack or other large items before confirmation. Passenger airport transfers are not specialist horse transport.
Can you collect parents and a student together?
Yes. Give us the full passenger and luggage count so we can discuss a suitable vehicle. Move-in journeys often need more luggage space than a standard airport trip.
Where is Hartpury University graduation held?
Hartpury’s current 2026 graduation guidance places the award ceremonies at Gloucester Cathedral. Check the current year’s official instructions before booking because dates and arrangements can change.
Can I book Hartpury University to Heathrow for the end of term?
Yes. Send your flight departure time, terminal, collection point, passengers and luggage. We can plan a direct pre-booked transfer from the campus, Blackfriars or another confirmed Gloucestershire address.
